Those Dreaded Inner Thighs

I can't tell you how many times over my career I have been asked, "What can I do about reducing my inner thighs?" If it's not that question, then it's "What exercise will reduce my inner thighs?"

The sad truth is there is not 1 exercise that will reduce your inner thighs. Spot reducing is a myth and cannot be done. What you can do is target or isolate certain muscles that you wish to tone or develop. But, you cannot spot reduce. When you lose fat it is reduced throughout your whole body evenly. The body contains a certain number of fat cells (and everyone's is different) that are distributed throughout the body (and everyone's is distributed differently). Some people (usually men) carry most of their fat cells in their stomach, while others (usually women) carry it around their hips/thighs/buttocks. When you lose weight all of your fat cells shrink proportionately. So if you have more fat cells in your stomach, it will look like you have lost weight in your stomach area; the same goes for the inner thighs.

My suggestion is that you develop a total body workout that targets every muscle group and combine that with consistent cardiovascular exercise and a good eating plan. If you tend to have excess fat in your thigh area, then you should notice it reducing there first when you start exercising.

Discussion: Have you tried to spot reduce before? What area(s) would you like to focus on for your body?
