Healthy Football Snacking

Fall is all about football, sports, activities, tailgating, snacking, grilling, and various beverage guzzling. Here's how to kick out the calories and make healthier choices this fall.

Tailgating

Calories add up fast when tailgating. High-fat bratwurst sausages, burgers, and
BBQ ribs are loaded with calories. Chips, potato salad, peanuts, and beverages round out the list. A four-hour game can be a marathon of constant snacking. Choose lower-fat items, leaner cuts of meat, and fruits and veggies as snack items. Use lower fat mayo and reduced-calorie sauces for dipping.

Snacking

Select bulk items that are still great munchies: air popped popcorn, lower fat chips, and even some high fiber cereals can be tasty. Fall is one of the most common times to start packing on the pounds, and weight gain only increases as we move into winter. If you're like most people, moving less and eating more during this time of the year, making a few alterations in your eating habits can help you avoid extra pounds. Give these ideas a try this fall--you'll do great!"
