Stress (part 2 - Exercise and Stress)

Does Exercise Reduce Stress? YES!!!

Exercise causes the brain to release endorphins, which are opium-like substances that ease pain and produce a sense of comfort and euphoria.

It also encourages the nerve cells in the brain to secrete other neurotransmitters, such as serotonin, dopamine and norepinephrine, which improve general feeling. Deficiencies of these hormones and enzymes have been linked to symptoms of depression, anxiety, impulsivity, aggression and increased appetite.

Improving one's lifestyle and finding inner peace and contentment are ideal goals, but they can be achieved. It is easy to lose sight of what's important when under stress; however, it is an inevitable part of life. Since there is evidence confirming the enhancement of mental health and emotional well-being through exercise, it is an effective means to cope with life's ordinary troubles and provide a lasting strength and empowerment.

What types of exercise are best?
-- Aerobic types of exercise lasting up to about 30 minutes generally are associated with the largest reductions in perceived stress.
-- Aerobic exercise lasting for at least a few months have been shown to reduce chronic stress.

The simplest and most immediate approach to stress reduction is to make time, even small amounts, for exercise and recreation.

All that is needed is the motivation to go and do it. Understanding the benefits of exercise beyond obvious enjoyment can make a marked improvement in one's lifestyle.

STEVE, I ONCE MADE A STATEMENT THAT I HAD A GUARANTEED, FOOLPROOF WAY OF LOSING WEIGHT, BECOMING HEALTHIER AND FEELING BETTER. THIS MIRACLE SOLUTION WOULD NOT ONLY COST YOU NOTHING, YOU WOULD ACTUALLY SAVE MONEY. THIS CLEAR DETAILED FORMULA WOULD ONLY TAKE ME ABOUT 2-3 SECONDS TO EXPLAIN. IT WAS SIMPLY " EAT LESS, EXERCISE MORE". OF COURSE EVERYONE KNOWS THAT, BUT FEW AVAIL THEMSELVES OF THIS COMPLEX FORMULA. WE'D RATHER TAKE A PILL AND SPEND A FORTUNE CHASING THAT ELUSIVE BODY, ALL THE WHILE EATING EVERY PIECE OF JUNK FOOD THAT COMES ALONG. WHAT WE NEED TO DO IN THIS COUNTRY IS "MOTIVATION",TO DO WHAT WE NEED TO DO. YOU'RE VERY GOOD AT JUST THAT. THANKS, KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK.

      Martha -

Your point is so valid, I am going to respond to it with a post of its own.

      Thank you!
