Trust

Trust is defined as "the confident expectation of something" (Dictionary.com). So what does trust have to do with wellness? Let me keep going and we'll see if it becomes clearer for you.

Have you ever heard the phrase, "I have complete trust in you" before? I ask you this...Is there any other way to have trust in someone? Can you have partial trust? Isn't partial trust an oxymoron? You either have trust or you don't. For example, in relationships you need to trust your significant other will be committed to you and will never stray. If you say, "I trust her as long as..." If you have to use the phrase "as long as", then you don't trust her.

In sports you need to trust your abilities and your teammates. If you don't trust in your abilities you will fail. For example, if you are a pole vaulter and you are about to attempt a new height you have to trust your abilities in order to be successful. If you have doubt you will fail. In a team situation you need to trust your teammates will be where they are supposed to be when they are supposed to be there. If you don't trust them, then it will affect the way you play and will ultimately hurt the team. In this case, the team is not playing together; they are a bunch of individuals playing with the same jersey on.

In business trust is critical on many different levels. Managers need to trust employees and vice versa, businesses need to trust their vendors, and the list goes on. Trust is the new buzz word in the business world. Steven R. Covey is making a mint off of his new book and seminars, "Leading at the Speed of Trust."

In health and fitness you need trust too. If you work with a coach or a trainer, you need to trust that they will do what is best for you and not hurt you. If you are on your own, you need to trust that you will stick to you healthy eating habits and your exercise program. You need to trust that all of the information regarding the benefits of exercise and a healthy lifestyle are worth the effort you put into your wellness program.

Take a minute and answer these questions.
