Resolutions vs. Goals

Yes, it is that wonderful time of year when nearly everyone makes their New Year's Resolutions. And inevitably the resolutions are broken in a matter of months, if not weeks. So what exactly is a resolution? One definition I found says it is "the act or process of resolving." When you resolve something it must mean their was a problem to start with. A goal on the other hand is defined as "an end toward which effort is directed." So are you making Resolutions or are you making Goals? Are you "fixing" a problem or are you making an effort toward something new?

An example of a resolution is: "I want to lose the 10 pounds of fat weight I gained last year."

An example of a goal is: "I want to read a new book every month."

A goal of mine for 2008 is to help out more around the house. Since my
fiancĂ© works very hard during the school semester, I want to help her out more so that she will have less pressure on her.

What are your resolutions or goals for 2008? This is a great forum to get your goals written and to have someone to be accountable to. Leave a comment below and post your 2008 resolutions and/or goals. Did you know that a goal that is written down has a much greater chance of being accomplished? The power of a written goal is tremendous. And on top of it, when you write a goal down and have someone to be accountable to, it makes it even more likely to have your goal accomplished.

I like the idea of writing down your goals for the new year! I'd like to see others who read this blog share their goals for 2008. Anyone brave enough to publically state (and commit) to their goals? Here's mine:
I will start behaving more like the person I want to be.
